Studying English as a Second Language—Six week awards

Placement into the intensive ESL classes at UIW is very competitive, and space for Visiting Scholars is extremely limited.

Intensive ESL is taught on the UIW Campus by Berlitz-ELS English Language Systems. Intensive classes are conducted six hours each day, five days each week, and each session is four weeks in length.

These six-week awards are designed to allow Sister School Visiting Scholars to:
  • Experience a one-week orientation to UIW,
  • Complete four weeks of English study, then to
  • Experience a one-week conclusion of the U.S. experience before leaving the UIW Campus.
All persons who study ELS in this program are tested and placed in class according to a measured command of English, rather than according to age or any other professional status.

Please see the UIW English as a Second Language Fact Sheet for more information.

To indicate your interest in studying ESL at UIW, please complete the
Sister School Visiting Scholar Profile and return it to burr@universe.uiwtx.edu. Please include a current resume with your submitted profile, and include an email address
