Extension
of Stay
A J-1 student is eligible
for program extension if he/she has continually maintained status by
following all J-1 program requirements as described by the sponsor, the
Department of State and USCIS. The extension is granted only if the student
has well documented academic or medical reasons for the delay. The extension
must be supported by the academic department and approved by International
Student Advisors.
The extension process must be initiated and completed
within a 30 day period prior to the expiration of the DS-2019 form. The
30 days grace period allowed after the expiration of
a J-1 program cannot be used as a period of time within which an extension
or transfer request can be processed.

the Responsible Officer may be issued and may be necessary for instances
when off-campus employment can be considered on-campus employment. Student
must be maintaing J-1 status.

Economic Hardship: Can work 20 hrs/wk during academic
year; full-time when school is not in session. Approval up to 12 months
with option to extend.
