Extension
of Stay
An F-1 student
is eligible for program extension if he/she has continually maintained
status by enrolling full-time, showing
normal progress toward a degree and following all immigration requirements
regarding employment and other procedures.
The extension is granted only if the student has well documented academic
or medical reasons for the delay. The extension must be supported by
the academic department and approved by advisor of the International
Office. For reference, the
60 days grace period allowed after the expiration
of a F-1 program.
Work
permission for F-1
In general, Students who bear a F1
visa are not allowed to work because of academic reason.
On
campus
-- No authorization necessary,
employment incidental to status.
Off
campus
Economic Hardship: Documentation
must be mailed to INS; EAD required. Processing time approximately 8
weeks; allowed to work 20 hours a week when school is in session, full-time
during summer.
